Hat Day - Supporting Student Athletes

Wednesday, April 5th

Several of our students will be  participating in a five town Special Olympic Game Day on April 7th. We are incredibly proud of our athletes and  would like to show them our support.

Therefore, all Memorial School students and staff are invited to  donate a $1.00 and wear a hat in school on Wednesday, April  5th. Funds raised will be donated to the Special Olympics in honor of our student athletes. Last year we donated $455 to the Special Olympics Organization. Let’s see what we can do this year.

Students in grades three and four will participate in MCAS 2.0 testing this spring. Students in both grades will take the English Language Arts (ELA) and Math MCAS assessment. Third grade students will participate in paper based testing, while our fourth grade students join other fourth grade students across the state by taking computer based testing.

Below you will find specific test dates for our students. Please make every effort to have your student in school and on time on his/her assessment date.

STEM Saturday for Girls

On Saturday, March 25th over 200 of our 2-8th grade students participated in the second annual STEM Saturday for Girls. Students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops and hear our keynote speaker, Kimberly Arcand, speak about her experience working at NASA. Below you will find a few photos which illustrate the spirit of the day.

Huge thanks to Memorial School Science Teacher Stephanie Cunningham and Medway Middle School Instructional Coach Mary Evans for serving as committee chairs.  Additional thanks to the following committee members from Memorial School: Nicole Ball,  Mary Beth Curran, Marissa Keleher Megan Munger and  Danielle Witter. Cheers  to Linda Lindsey, Catherine Loring and Ellen Ward and the many parent volunteers for joining us on the day of the event. Finally, we owe our gratitude to Exelon of Medway for sponsoring this event.

Enrichment Updates

Your Fundraising at Work: Program Sponsored by MEPTO

Sounds of Science - Grade 4

On Friday, March 31st, our fourth graders will enjoy an exciting and educational visit from the Museum of Science in Boston. In this enrichment presentation, students will learn about vibrations and how changes in their speed or size create the interpretations we call sound. They will hear a sonic boom, experience how a vacuum diminishes vibration, and, if all goes as planned, will see a wine glass shatter solely due to sound.. Be sure to ask your 4th grader about this enrichment experience.

Cultural Proficiency Partnership ~ Event on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 7:00  PM

We are excited to share that we recently agreed to partner with EDCO Collaborative's IDEAS Program in our efforts to enhance the cultural sensitivity and proficiency practices of our school district.  Aligned with our efforts outlined in our Strategic Plan, this important work has been recently punctuated as a need with events connected with student behavior that is not reflective of a community that celebrates and appreciates diversity.  We are excited about this partnership - which will include building based self assessments, leadership training, and staff professional development - and the deep reflection and learning that will come from this work.

As part of this effort, we would like to continue the conversation we started with our community on January 30.  On Monday, April 3, Kalise Wornum, founder of KW Diversity INC., will be returning to Medway.    This event is for parents/guardians and will be hosted in the auditorium at Medway High School.  We hope to see you there. A flier of the event can be found here.

School Banking Program

Charles River Bank offers our students an opportunity to begin saving by hosting a School Banking Program at Burke-Memorial School. Students have the opportunity to deposit money into their savings accounts right in our school lobby.  Representatives from the bank will be available to students who would like to conduct banking business on WEDNESDAY mornings.

Textile Bins

Thanks to all who continue to use these bins, located at each of our school locations.   Please consider using these bins to recycle clothes and shoes. The MFE continues to receive cash from these bins and those dollars go right back into supporting our schools.  Spring cleanup time is just around the corner!

Medway Friends of the Performing Arts

3rd Annual Family Concert -  Sunday, April 2nd at 2pm Medway High School

All are welcome to enjoy an entertaining performance by the Copley Cats, an a capella group. The concert is FREE and great for all ages. Complimentary refreshments will be served at the end of the performance. Click here to see the flyer.

The Copley Cats will sing a variety of music from standards to popular music. As one of the longest-running a cappella groups in the Boston area, the Copley Cats are known for tight harmonies, amazing blend, and great music. The group's founders were Mount Holyoke grads who missed singing together in college and decided to form the Copley Cats. The original group's first performance was over 30 years ago and the music has been going strong since.

The group has performed on WGBH's 2nd season of “Sing That Thing”. Members come from all sorts of backgrounds: teachers and administrators, librarians and marketers, designers, domestic engineers, and singer/songwriters and includes our very own Burke-Memorial librarian, Mrs. Francis!

The concert is sponsored by Medway Cable Access, David French Music, and supported in part by a grant from the Medway Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
