April Updates

April News

As a reminder, all students in grade 3 and 4 will participate in MCAS ELA testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Please ensure that your child gets a good night sleep before each assessment and that they eat a healthy breakfast. Additionally, and most importantly, please make sure that your child arrives to school on time. If your child will not be in school on a testing date, please call the office as soon as possible to let us know of the absence.

Supporting Student Athletes

On Wednesday, April 5th, Memorial School sponsored a Hat Day to raise money for the  Special Olympics Organization of Massachusetts.  We are  proud to say that we raised $425 dollars in honor of our student athletes.

On Friday, April 7th, several of our students participated in the Special Olympic Games. Our entire student body had the chance to either send off our students in style or welcome them back to campus with a series of pep rallies. We are excited to say that the Games will return our home town next year as Medway will serve as the host town. We are proud of our student athletes and all of the volunteers for making this day so special. Here are a few photos from the event!

Every Kid Healthy Week- April 24th-28th

Every Kid Healthy Week will take place from April 24-28th! Part of a national movement working to make schools healthier places, Every Kid Healthy Week is an annual observance that encourages students to learn to eat right, be physically active and equipped for success.  Because healthy kids are better learners!

Here at Burke-Memorial, we will be implementing various events throughout the course of the week, as outlined below.  We hope you will support this initiative by motivating your kids to practice healthy behaviors at home, sending in healthy snacks, and engaging in one of the “Friday Family Fitness” activities listed below!

April 24th ~ MOVEMENT MONDAY: We will kick-off Every Kid Healthy Week with an assembly where kids will participate in physical activities and learn fun games to play during recess.

April 25th ~ TASTY TUESDAY: Please encourage your child to bring in healthy foods for snack and lunch. Maybe try something new from this list!

April 26th ~ WALKING WEDNESDAY:  Students will participate in a walk around the school property with their class.

April 27th ~ THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY: A big component of staying healthy is emotional wellness.  Students will identify moments of kindness throughout their day.

April 28th ~ FAMILY FITNESS FRIDAY: Please click on this link from the Let’s Move campaign, and choose a physical activity to participate in as a family as you head into the weekend!

Textile Bins

Thanks to all who continue to use these bins, located at each of our school locations.   Please consider using these bins to recycle clothes and shoes.
