December PBIS Theme : Random Acts of C.A.R.E.

Memorial C.A.R.E. Days-  December 11th - December 15th

During the week of December 11th, we invite our students to spread a little CARE to others in our community by supporting the Medway Food Pantry. Students are asked to bring in one of the following items: toilet paper, paper towels, soap, tooth brushes or tooth paste. During the week of the 11th, classrooms will count their donations and we will tally up our donations at the end of the week.   We look forward to supporting the great work of the Medway Food Pantry.

PBIS Celebration- Friday, December 22, 2017

On Friday, December 22nd, Memorial School will enjoy a school-wide assembly and celebration. Middle School Chorus members will visit Memorial School to share some festive music with our school community. Students are invited to wear comfy pajamas to school for a school wide pajama day. For safety reasons, slippers may not be worn to school. We look forward to kicking off the holiday vacation with this traditional event!

Change in After School Routines

We are noticing an increase in the number of changes that are being made to  students’ transportation routines. If you need to change your child’s typical dismissal or transportation routine, please send a note into school that morning with your child describing the change. It is also important that you review this change in routine with your child and remind him/her of the note to pass along to the teacher. Please note that children are not permitted to ride home on another child’s bus for the purpose of play dates.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found pile is growing. Please encourage your child to look through our collection of coats, mittens, hats and sweatshirts. We would love to have some of these items claimed before the holidays! Lost and found items are located outside of the cafeteria.

Cold Weather Reminders

We make every attempt to get students outside for fresh air and exercise each day. While we do not like to call indoor recess, there are times when we must to ensure the safety of our students and staff. When making this decision, we consider the actual temperature, the wind-chill factor and the condition of our school yard. When sending your student to school, please ensure that your child is prepared to go outside for recess. Weather conditions change frequently during the course of the day and it is difficult to predict what the weather will look like during recess time. Several teachers have recommended that students transport their winter gear in reusable grocery store bags. These bags are easy for children to carry and seem to be the perfect size for boots, snow pants, hats and mittens. Parents are asked to put student names or classroom numbers on all winter gear so that we can help reunite items with owners should they get separated.

Nutrition Detectives-  Grade Three  Enrichment- Friday, December 15, 2017

Our third grade students will experience  the Nutrition Detectives  enrichment program on Friday, December 15, 2017. Nutrition Detectives™ is an innovative program for elementary school children. It shows students the "5 clues" to read food labels and detect marketing deceptions while learning to identify and choose healthful foods. This engaging presentation is followed by a hands-on activity in which children apply their "detective" skills with real food packages.
