Community Conversation

Monday, January 30, 2017  - 7pm Medway High School Auditorium

Recently, Dr. Pires sent out an invitation to all families and faculty in the district to attend a facilitated community conversation around the topic of Cultural Competency.  We hope you can join us for this important conversation  on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Medway High School Auditorium.     Please find a publicity flyer describing the event here.

School Lunch Update

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed  many of our students  throwing away lunches. This includes lunches that were made from home and lunches purchased at school. Instead, we see many students start their lunch with a snack either sent in from home or purchased at school.  In an effort to encourage students to eat lunch before snack, we will introduce a new lunchroom routine on Monday. As a result we will have students purchase food items from the cafeteria in two stages. The first will be students who are purchasing lunch, milk or water. We will then open the line again towards the end of the period for students who would like to purchase snack.  We encourage families to speak with their children about individual family expectations related to lunch. Additionally, we strongly encourage parents to log onto Chartwells website and track student spending at lunch using My School Bucks. If you scroll through the questions you will find directions for how to monitor student purchases.

Sponsored by Medway High School’s Tolerance Acceptance Diversity Alliance (TADA)

Did you know that in the United States alone every year over 600 million shoes are thrown in landfills? Help make a global impact in 2017!

Until March 26th TADA is collecting new and gently used shoes to repurpose. The collected shoes support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations, where walking is the main mode of transportation. Micro-enterprises are small businesses that are typically operated by one person or a small group of family and friends. Your donation provides a community with shoes, families with businesses of their own, and funds to support TADA.

Any type of shoe will be accepted - flip-flops, cleats, sneakers, kids, boots - anything goes.  We ask that the shoes be new or gently used. If shoes are muddy, torn, have holes, or the sole is detached we cannot accept them. Otherwise, we will gladly take any pair of shoes you are willing to donate.

Starting Wednesday January 25th, there will be collection boxes at Medway High, Middle, and Memorial schools, Town Hall, and Shaw’s.

Start the year off on the right foot and donate to the shoe drive!
