May Updates

Heartfelt Thanks!

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Burke-Memorial, thank you all for the outpouring of kindness during our celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. We have been greeted with kind works from our students and  have  received thoughtful letters and cards which we will treasure. On Tuesday, we were treated to breakfast and yesterday, we were  treated to a delicious lunch.  We truly appreciate the thoughtful gestures, and will remember this week as yet another reason we are lucky to be part of the Medway community. Thank you!

Math MCAS-

Grade 3- Wednesday & Thursday, May 17th & 18th

Grade 4 - Tuesday & Wednesday, May 16th & 17th

Each year, our third and fourth grade students participate in MCAS assessments in Mathematics.  MCAS is an important tool in assessing the achievement of individual students.  At the school level, we use the data from MCAS to make decisions about the curriculum and programs that we offer to our students.

Similar to the English Language Arts MCAS, our fourth grade students will participate in Computer Based Testing in mathematics, while our third grade students will continue to participate in paper based testing.

Please keep these MCAS dates in mind as student absences during this time are particularly disruptive.

Fire Drill Practice

Yesterday afternoon, Memorial School students participated in a fire drill.   Students responded quickly and quietly as we evacuated the building.  After the drill our students had an opportunity to meet our new School Resource Officer, Police Officer Robert O’Neil. We will continue to practice and review our fire drill procedures with students in an effort to continually improve and refine our procedures.  We are proud of our students for their quick response.

Teal Takeover Day- Friday, May 19th

Food allergies and anaphylaxis affect more than 15 million Americans.  It is estimated that every classroom has at least 2 students with a potentially life-threatening food allergy. In an effort to raise awareness of food allergies, Memorial School will participate in  “Teal Takeover” day on Friday, May 19th.  Students are encouraged to wear teal to show support and raise awareness of food allergies.

ABC Countdown to the Last 26 Days of School!

We are nearing the final days of school. Can you believe how quickly this year has passed? In celebration, students and teachers will countdown with alphabet themed days! We would appreciate your support in making each of these days magical, although participation is optional.

Click here for a copy of the calendar.  We encourage you and your child to countdown and mark off each day in anticipation of the final day in school!

Many days are themed with activities that will not involve much effort from home. However, a few activities will involve your support. On select days, students will be asked to bring in an item to celebrate.

Our countdown days begin on Wednesday, May 17th. As always, we are grateful for your continued support of our school-wide activities this school year.

Thank you!
