Summer Reading Celebration, MEPTO Meeting and more...

Burke-Memorial School

End of September Update

Summer Reading Celebration Success!

Today was a proud day to be part of the Memorial School community. This afternoon, we gathered outside to celebrate the successful completion of our Summer Reading Challenge.

Students who completed reading logs  and/or returned summer reading letters from home,  had their names entered into a drawing. Several brave faculty members volunteered to participate in a game of Drip Drip Drop, where students dripped and then dropped a cup of water on the head of an unsuspecting faculty member. Much to the delight of our students, many of our faculty members did not escape the day unscathed.  Mr. Kelley  received what football coaches lovingly refer to as the “gatorade bath”  at the end of our celebration!

Several things struck me during our celebration today. I thought I’d share a few of them with you:

  • Classmates cheered for their friends.

  • Students were genuinely impressed with the amount of reading that  classmates accomplished.

  • There was a spirit of goodwill in the air.

  • Children were happy for their friends, laughing with their teachers and inspiring others to keep reading and reaching for goals.

  • Student behavior was exemplary!

  • Everyone left for the weekend feeling good about themselves.

Our students exemplified the values of Cooperation, Acceptance, Responsibility and Effort today! We are proud of our students  for reading and reaching our school-wide goal. We are equally as proud of them for exhibiting C.A.R.E!

Enjoy the weekend, praise your children for their inspiring behavior today and please encourage them to keep reading!

Medway Elementary PTO Meeting - Tuesday, October 3rd

Featuring:  Safe Routes to School and Online Safety

Our first Medway Elementary PTO meeting will be held Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30 pm in the Memorial School cafeteria (this is a change from McGovern).  The meeting will begin with Mrs. Cooney and Ms. Luizzi for our Principal Talk where they will meet and greet, provide updates, and answer any questions you may have. At 7PM, Dr. Ryan Sherman our Wellness Director will be present our Safe Routes to School program to parents and answer any questions you may have. Lastly, by popular demand we are bringing back safety conversations both in our schools and at home with our  Resource Officer, Lieutenant O'Neill and Detective Sergeant Reardon. We will talk about online safety both at home, school and on cell phones (apps).  It will also be a time to ask any questions about what we should do as parents to keep our children safe and how to respond to an emergency at our schools or town. It is an amazing group opportunity that comes once a year so don't miss it! Lastly, we will have some quick updates from our PTO board with upcoming events and other announcements. We hope to see you there!

Walk It!

Students at Burke-Memorial School will celebrate International Walk to School Day on Friday , October 6th  by participating in a  walk on our campus. Weather permitting, students will walk the half-mile perimeter of our school grounds. In the event of inclement weather, we will reschedule the event. We ask that all students wear sneakers or walking shoes for this exciting event.
