Student Arrival

Thank You!

A huge thank you to all parents/guardians and students for making  a strong effort to be to school on time each day.  We are already noticing a change this year and hope that this positive  trend will continue.  Please remember that we expect students to be in their classrooms between 8:00 and 8:10am.  On-time attendance is one way students can show C.A.R.E!

Fire Drill

This morning, Memorial School students participated in a fire drill. Medway Fire Chief Lynch was with us during this practice and was pleased with how our students evacuated the building.    Over the next few weeks,  we will continue to practice and review our fire drill procedures with students in an effort to continually improve and refine our practice.  We are proud of our students for their quick response.

School Picture Day

Lifetouch Photography will join us on  Thursday, September 15, 2016  to take portraits of our students. If you would like to learn more about the portrait programs that Lifetouch is offering, please review the photo brochure that was sent home via backpack mail on Thursday, September 8th,, or call Lifetouch directly at 508 946-0777 or 800-697-4451.

Author Matt Holm to Visit Memorial School

September 29th

On Thursday, September 29th, 2016, author Matt Holm will visit Burke Memorial School.  Matt Holm is the co-creator and illustrator of the award-winning Babymouse series of graphic novels. Matt will meet with our students and speak about his craft. We expect that Matt will also take some questions from our own budding authors and illustrators.  Students are welcome to place an order for one of Matt’s books by clicking here or filling out an order form that was sent home via backpack mail. Please note that order forms are due by Monday, September 19, 2016

BOKS Before School Program Coming to Memorial School!

Parent Volunteers Needed!

Thanks to a grant written by science/technology teacher Marissa Keleher and funded by the Medway Foundation for Education, we are hoping to offer our students a new program called BOKS (Build Our Kids Success). BOKS promotes the impact that physical activity has on a child’s mind, body and spirit. The program aims to get elementary school aged children active first thing in the morning to help prepare them both mentally and physically for a day of productive learning.

The Medway Foundation for Education graciously approved a grant to pilot the BOKS program at Memorial School, but we need your help!  We are looking for parent volunteers who can donate their gift of time to make the BOKS program a success.  The more volunteers we have, the more students we can accommodate. The volunteer commitment would be from 7 to 8 am on Mondays and Fridays, starting on October 17th and ending on December 9th.  A fitness background is not required to volunteer -- the only requirements are reliability and a passion for working with kids!

If you are interested in learning more about the BOKS program, please visit their website at  To volunteer, please contact Marissa Keleher at

Media Policy

Many school events and student accomplishments are publicized through print and electronic media, including local newspapers, local cable television, and the district website. The School District Media Policy (School Committee Policy #88) was approved in 2013. This policy provides an opportunity for any parent/guardian who does not wish his/her child's image to be photographed, displayed electronically or in print to opt his/her child out by submitting a letter to the office of the building principal at the beginning of the school year.

2016 Health Screenings

As required by Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations, 105 CMR 200.000, our school nurse, Cheryl Gay will be conducting hearing, stereopsis and  vision screenings  for all second and third grade students. Screenings for fourth grade students will include vision, height and weight.  These screenings will take place in the health office from September 20th to October 5th.  Every effort will be made to protect student privacy during the screening process.  As always, you do have the right to “opt out” of the screenings.  Please notify Nurse Gay in writing, (letter or email) by Friday, September 16, 2016 if you wish to opt out of a certain screening.

Given the previous changes to the height and weight measurements of 105 CMR 200.500, a letter informing you of your child’s body mass index will not be sent home.   However, if your child does not meet the hearing and vision requirements, a letter requesting/suggesting further evaluation and follow up with your provider in these areas will be sent home.

If you have any questions, please contact  Nurse Cheryl F. Gay, BSN, RN,NCSN via phone 508-533-3265,  fax 508-533-3274 or email
