August 30th Superintendent's Message

August 30, 2016

Dear families,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We were excited to welcome students back to school today and had the opportunity to visit all schools during the bus and parent drop offs this morning.  We will be spending the first few days of school visiting all classrooms to welcome students and staff back and ensuring that buildings have the support that they need for a smooth and productive start.  Below, please find some information to support your connection to the district.

Transportation

Thanks again to all families for proactively assisting us with any transportation questions or concerns.  As you know, the safety of your children is of the highest priority to us and our collaborative efforts are necessary to ensure that all children are safe.  As today was the first full day of school, we do want to ensure that we are continuing to address your transportation questions in a timely manner.  Please direct questions to our Director of Finance and Operations, Don Aicardi at daicardi@medwayschools.org.

SAVE THE DATE!

The Medway Public Schools, in collaboration with our parent and community support organizations, will be hosting a viewing of Screenagers, a documentary that supports families as they navigate with their children through our ever evolving digital world.  More details to come but please set aside time to join us for this important event on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Medway High School auditorium.

Newsweek Ranking

Exciting news!  Newsweek recently released its ranking of top public high schools in the United States.  We are pleased to share that Medway High School was ranked 11 of 18 schools in Massachusetts who were listed on the national list and 312 of 500 schools nationally.  The link to an article about the rankings can be found here.

Teaching and Learning Spotlight

Today we celebrate the beginning of what we expect will be an exceptional year for all of our learners - students and professionals alike.  When we met with our staff for our first day together yesterday, we honored those who are celebrating special milestone contributions to our school system.  The following staff members were honored for 20 years of service with the Medway Public Schools:  Temma Downing, Kathleen Hickey, Cynthia O’Connell, Megan Morrison, Donna Pereira, and Diane Rozak.

Communication

Families can expect to receive updates such as this one from Central Office approximately twice per month.  The goal of these updates is to support our family connections and ensure transparency and clarity.  Building based updates (from administration and our educators) will also be shared throughout the year and will contain the essential information specifically targeted for you regarding your child’s school experience.

Social Media

Over the past few years, our administrators and teachers have increasingly used social media as a communication tool.  Twitter provides us with a great opportunity to share information with our community.  Please see below for official Twitter handles of our schools and the district.  We invite you to follow-us!
