Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year

Dear Medway families:

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  As communicated earlier, we have been busy preparing for a great school year.  Please review the following important information and updates that I wanted to share as we get ready for the start of school.

First Day of School

The first day of school for student in grades 1-12 will be Monday, August 31, 2015.  Students and families in our PreSchool and Kindergarten classrooms will participate in an orientation program on Monday August 31, 2015.  Kindergarten Orientation will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m.;  AM PreSchool Orientation will take place from 10:00-10:45 a.m. and PM PreSchool Orientation will take place from 1:00-1:45 p.m.  Please note that there will be no school on Friday, September 4.  The school calendar is available on our website:  http://www.medwayschools.org/sites/medwayps/files/file/file/2015_2016_school_year.pdf

Bus Routes and Transportation

The 2015-2016 bus routes are now available on our website (http://www.medwayschools.org/district/slides/2015-16-bus-schedules).  Although we have worked closely with our bus service provider, Holmes Transportation, to ensure a smooth start to the school year, it is typical that there may be delays during the first few days of school.  Please be patient as we all adjust to the new schedule.  Please know that the Medway Schools works closely with both Holmes Transportation and the Medway Police Department to address any concerns that are raised.  If you have any concerns about bus transportation you are encouraged to contact your child’s school.  You may also contact the Assistant Superintendent’s Office (508-533-3222 or ckopec@medwayschools.org) with concerns.

New Staff

We will be welcoming 15 new teachers, 4 new administrators and several support staff to our Medway Schools this fall.  This week our new teachers will participate in a two-day orientation program.  This program allows us to share our educational values with our new teachers and ensure that they get off to a great start.  We will be highlighting our new staff in the next edition of The Education Express, our online newsletter, which will be published around mid-September.

Transition to Google

As a reminder, all Medway Public Schools’ e-mail communication has moved to the Google platform.  As a result, all email addresses will end with the suffix “@medwayschools.org.”

Over the past few years, our administrators and teachers have increasingly used Twitter as a communication tool.  Twitter provides us with a great opportunity to share information with our community.  Please see below for official Twitter handles of our schools and the district.  We invite you to follow-us!

Superintendent’s Chat

As has been the tradition, I will hold regular Superintendent’s Chats.  These “chats” provide the opportunity for interested parents and community members to gather and discuss our district and the the initiatives underway.  The first chat has been scheduled for Thursday, September 10th in the Medway High School Library.

Looking forward to a smooth and exciting start of the year with you and your children.

Armand Pires, Ph.D.

Interim Superintendent
