End of September News

September 29, 2017

Dear Families,

It was great to see and meet so many of you at Open House/Curriculum Night on Wednesday! Our goal in meeting with families at this time in the year is to lay the foundation for a strong and successful home-school partnership.  Open House/Curriculum Night is just the first of many opportunities that you will have throughout the year to get to know your child’s teacher and to learn more about the curriculum and classroom practices and routines that make up your child’s day at school.  Another such opportunity will be on Tuesday, October 24th when McGovern will host our Family Literacy Night!  PreK and K families are invited to join us from 5:00-5:45 pm and First Grade families are invited to join us from 6:15-7:00 pm.  This night will also coincide with our annual Book Fair.  I will send more information out as we get closer to the event!

Here are some News and Announcements from McGovern School:

  • Our first Medway Elementary PTO meeting will be held Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30 pm in the Memorial School cafeteria (this is a change from McGovern).  The meeting will begin with Ms. Cooney and Ms. Luizzi for our Principal Talk where they will meet and greet, provide updates, and answer any questions you may have. At 7PM, Dr. Ryan Sherman our Wellness Director will be present our Safe Routes to School program to parents and answer any questions you may have. Lastly, by popular demand we are bringing back safety conversations both in our schools and at home with our schools’ Resource Officer, Lieutenant O'Neill and Detective Sergeant Reardon. We will talk about online safety both at home, school and on cell phones (apps).  It will also be a time to ask any questions about what we should do as parents to keep our children safe and how to respond to an emergency at our schools or town. It is an amazing group opportunity that comes once a year; so don't miss it! Lastly, we will have some quick updates from our PTO board with upcoming events and other announcements. We hope to see you there!

  • As many of you heard on Open House/Curriculum Night, our art teacher, Robin Hackett has started an instagram account for the McGovern Art Room.  The name is mcgovernartroom (all one word).  We hope you follow along!

  • A gentle reminder that school will be closed on Monday, October 9th in observance of Columbus Day and on Tuesday, October 10th for a professional development day for faculty and staff.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Warm regards,

Christina
