March News

March has arrived like a lion with windy, cold weather, but Spring is just around the corner. In the meantime, we have lots of events to keep us busy during the entire month.

Tuesday, March 7th

An Elementary Principals' Tea at 6:30 p.m. will kick off the next MEPTO meeting which will take place in the McGovern library at 7 p.m. on Tusday, 3/7.

Medway's SRO Detective Dan Grimes is scheduled to be the featured speaker during the MEPTO meeting. He will address device safety for elementary children, if a conflict in his busy schedule does not arise.

Thursday March 9th and Friday March 10th

Through the generosity of MEPTO, our first graders will have the wonderful experience of science learning when scientists from High Touch/High Tech visit individual classrooms. This high quality enrichment program allows hands on opportunities to learn about sound in an engaging VIBES presentation. Please be sure to ask your child about it.

Saturday, March 11th

I hope you are planning to join us in the annual Shamrock Shuffle which will take place this Saturday morning at Medway High School. Runners, walkers, and strollers are all invited to participate in this fun event which raises significant funds for MEPTO. Hope to see you there!

Tuesday, March14th

The next meeting of the McGovern School Council will take place in the conference room on the 14th at 3:15 p.m.

Friday, March 17th

Second term report cards will be distributed on 3/17th. This date is also an early release day for all Pre-K -12 students. Our morning preschool will take place as usual, but there will be no PM preschool. Half day K students will be dismissed as usual. For all other McGovern students, dismissal will take place at 12 noon and no lunch will be served.

Monday, March 20th

The Zoomobile from the Southwick Zoo will visit our first graders once again this year, bringing along some fascinating animals about which students can learn, ask questions, and in some cases touch. It is always a fabulous event and we once again thank MEPTO for bringing this special experience to our students.

Tuesday, March 21st

Thanks to Mrs. McKay, our school nurse, children will enjoy a dental education visit from a hygienist from Dental Associates of Walpole. All students in preschool through grade one will meet in small groups with the hygienist to learn about proper care of teeth and the best snacks for dental health.

Monday, March 27 - Friday, March 31st

Ms. Cronan, our Music teacher, cordially invites you to join your student for a music class as a way of recognizing March as “Music in Our Schools” month. The opportunity to visit classes will take place during the last FULL week of March (27-31). On our music class website you will find your child’s music time and a link to a sign-up sheet. Please sign up for the date and time of your child’s class. Please consider joining us for a day of songs, games, and laughter! Feel free to email Ms. Cronan directly with any questions

Each classroom has a themed basket to which you are invited to make a contribution. These gorgeous baskets are then raffled off on the 31st after the traditional ice cream sundae social. To add to the fun, you never know who you will see there dishing out the delicious-ness!!
