November News

November 15, 2017

Dear Families,

This is the time of year when we often have the opportunity to reflect on things we are thankful for.  I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to thank all of YOU - the McGovern community.  I have felt welcomed by parents, teachers, and especially, kids. Our work with your children each day is what brings us a lot of joy and it is a responsibility we take very seriously.  Thank you for sharing your children with us at the McGovern School.

Here are the News and Announcements for the Week:

Thank you!

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the McGovern School, thank you to all of our families for the delicious luncheon on Wednesday, November 8th.  A huge thank you to MEPTO for sponsoring this event for all of us at McGovern.  We are truly touched by the thoughtfulness and generosity of the luncheon.  November is a busy time in schools and we all appreciated the lovely decorations in the faculty room and the exquisite food!

Box Top Winners!

The fall collection of box tops and labels was a success!  Huge thanks to our MEPTO Box Top leaders!  Congratulations to the following classrooms for winning the Box Top Competition: PreK – Mrs. Przybyl’s class with 388 Box Tops, Kindergarten – Mrs. Kirby’s class with 422 Box Tops, and Grade 1 – Mrs. Kelly’s class with 905 Box Tops!  Students will vote to determine a prize in each of their classrooms.

Tea with the Principals

There will be two upcoming Principal Teas.  The next Principal Tea will be held on Tuesday, November 21st at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Library.  The focus of this tea will be the 2017 MCAS.  We also have an upcoming Principal Tea scheduled on Tuesday, December 5th.  This tea will focus on the new standards-based report card.

Preschool Food Drive

The preschool is collecting canned and dried goods to donate to the Medway Food Pantry.  Last collection will be THIS Friday, November 17th.  Thank you for your help and support with this!

Family Literacy Month

As part of our school-wide celebration of Family Literacy Month, students are encouraged to use their Literacy Bingo board.  Students who fill in each square on the board will be entered in our raffle for a chance to win a gift card to a local book store.

Thanksgiving Break

On Wednesday, November 21, McGovern will have an early dismissal of 12:00 to signal the start of the Thanksgiving recess.  School will also be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23.  We will look forward to seeing you back at McGovern on Monday, November 27th.  On behalf of all the McGovern staff, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends.
