Dear McGovern Families,

 

On Thursday, McGovern celebrated International Walk to School Day!  Many students, teachers, and families gathered at the Medway VFW to meet the buses of students and then to walk back to McGovern School.  Students loved being out in the crisp fall air and walking with their friends and teachers to school!  Many thanks to McGovern's Physical Education Teacher, Brad Shoenfelt, for organizing this special event.  Thank you to all the families who came out to participate!  We hope to schedule our next Walk to School Day for May.  

 

On Friday, we also acknowledged our first Red Ticket recipients!  The red tickets are an important part of our Shining Stars Citizenship program at McGovern.  Students receive red tickets for being kind, respectful, and responsible members of our school community.  Each week, the names of students who have earned a red ticket are announced and they are given a special certificate for their efforts.  Students were so excited to share and be recognized for their good efforts at citizenship!  

Here are the News and Announcements for the Week:

  • Tea with the Principals: A focus on iReady (Grades 1-4)

    Elementary school principals will again host Tea with the Principals events  throughout the school year. These informal meetings will provide parents with the opportunity to meet with the elementary school principals. During these meetings, principals will provide updates on activities at the elementary schools  and answer general questions that families may have.

     

    October’s  Tea  will focus on the iReady Parent Reports and will be held on  Tuesday, October  17 th, at  6:30 p.m. at  Memorial School. Please consider joining us for this event.

 

  • Picture re-take day will be Tuesday, November 7th. More information will be coming home in your child's backpack shortly.

 

  • We are looking forward to hosting our annual Book Fair the week of October 23rd! There will be extended hours on the evening of Tuesday, October 24th. That evening we will also invite families (both parents and children) to attend our Family Literacy Night! Prek and K students are invited to our Family Literacy Night from 5:00-5:45 pm. Our first grade families are invited to join us from 6:15-7:00 pm. On Monday, your child will bring home some additional information about the Book Fair.
