The New Year Approaches

Welcoming Activities at McGovern this Week:

We begin our annual welcome to our incoming kindergarten students with the MEPTO sponsored K Playground Night Tuesday, August 23rd at 5:45. Please join us and allow your new student a chance to find some classmates and make some new friends. The evening extends from 5:45 - 7 p.m. and an application of insect spray is not a bad idea. I hope to see you there!

Mini Open Houses

The McGovern School will be open from 9 - 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24th and Thursday, August 25th for students and their parents to visit. Teachers will not necessarily be in their rooms, but it is a wonderful opportunity to visit the school and find the new classroom. While walking through the building with your child, it is a good idea to point out the cafeteria, the library, the gymnasium, the art room, the music room and the office. Feeling comfortable in their new school (and home away from home) will minimize butterflies on the first day of school for all new and returning students. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult and we do request that nothing in the recently-set-up classrooms are disturbed. We look forward to seeing you!

First Day of School

First grade students will begin their new year on Tuesday, August 30th with a full day of school which will begin at 8:45 and end at 3 p.m. It is a regular day where lunch will be served.

Our K students and Pre-K students will simply attend an orientation on Tuesday, 8/30. Kindergarten students and parents or guardians are invited to visit their assigned classrooms from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Morning Preschool students may visit from 10- 10:45 a.m. and Afternoon Preschool students are invited to meet in their classrooms from 1- 1:45. All of these orientations take place on Tuesday, August 30th.

Classes begin in earnest for K and Pre-K on Wednesday, August 31st.

Bus Routes

New bus routes have been published on the website and we encourage you to become familiar with the bus stop for drop of and pick up for your child. It is always a good idea to arrive at the assigned bus stop a little early and patiently wait for drop off as the routes become established and familiar to all at the beginning of the year.

Happy New Year to All!
