2014 Summer Reading

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are pleased to reach out to you with news of summer reading for this year. This particular program comes after much conversation with staff, parents, and students about the relevance of topics and opportunities for students to expand their learning during the summer.

 

All students will be afforded the opportunity to read one text over the summer, with a simple assignment to be submitted when complete. The students have several options both in terms of text and assignment, which will allow them a range of choices that will hopefully satisfy a number of student interests. In addition, the assignment itself is optional, with credit being given to students who submit an assignment, and no penalty will be assessed to those who choose not to participate.

 

For students enrolling in certain Honors or Advanced Placement courses, there are required assignments that are part of the curricula for those classes. However, those students may also complete a general summer reading assignment as well, again if they so choose.

We have been in touch with Barnes & Noble in Bellingham regarding hard copies of all our texts, and they are also available via Amazon. Many also offer hard copy or electronic copies, depending again on student preference. As always, we urge you to check out the Medway and other local libraries.

 

In terms of questions, we refer you to the FAQ’s on the website, but also invite you to email Aubrie Rojee, our Humanities Leader, or Mike Rubin, Dean of Academics & Student Activities, with anything specific.

MEDWAY FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION

WHOLE FOODS 5% DAY

TUESDAY, JUNE 4

Help Medway Foundation for Education support our schools by attending the 5% Day at Whole Foods Bellingham on Tuesday, June 4th. Whole Foods will donate 5% of sales from 8 AM to 9 PM to MFE, so please shop to support! No vouchers needed, just shop the way you normally would. Hold off on your weekly shopping until June 4th and be a part of helping the schools of Medway!

From 5:30 to 8 PM, MFE will have board members present in the store to answer questions and provide information about programs we have funded. We’ll also have ceramics from the Memorial kiln (an MFE grant recipient) for sale. Sales of these tiles will fund additional supplies for the ceramic program.

Medway Foundation for Education is a 501(c) (3) non-profit with the mission of funding programs within the Medway Public schools which cannot be fully funded through ordinary budgetary means.

Medway Secondary PTO May Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:30pm at the Middle School Library

Elections for Board Members & Committee Chairpersons for 2014/2015 will be held.  There are still quite a few positions open and we need your help!
 
Executive Board positions MUST be filled in order for the MSPTO to continue next year.  
 
Topics to be discussed at the meeting will include:
  • Scholastic Awards (Middle & High School)

  • High School Scholarships

  • Snack Shack

  • Volunteer Appreciation Night

  • After Prom Party (2015)

  • Graduation Fundraiser

The May meeting of the Medway Special Education Parent Advisory Council will be held on Tuesday, May 13 from 7-9 pm in the Medway Hight School Guidance Area.  The meeting will feature a presentation on Technology Application in Special Education Across Medway Public Schools (K-12) by Cheryl Farley, Assistive Technology Specialist.

The April Meeting of the Medway Secondary PTO will be held THIS Wednesday, April 2nd at 7:30pm in the HS Guidance Area.  All parents are welcome to attend.

Nominations for Board positions and Committee Chairpersons for 2014/2015 will be held and Elections will be held at the May meeting.
 
MSPTO is currently looking for a person(s) to organize the Flowers & Water Fundraiser on Graduation Day (June 8th). This is a small fundraiser that can yield a big profit. If you are available to help out and would like more information, please email MedwaySecPTO@gmail.com.

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students of the Class of 2018,
We wish to extend your first official welcome to the Medway High School!  Now that you are more than half-way through your eighth grade year, we are looking forward to your becoming a part of our high school community in September.  Medway High School is a wonderful place, designed to meet the needs of students of all abilities by providing a rigorous academic program, in addition to a broad range of elective offerings, and numerous extra-curricular opportunities.

This event is for all current grade 8 students and their parents.

So that you may learn about the high school, the MHS administration, staff, and students are presenting a program on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, beginning at 6:30 pm in our auditorium. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions about the high school and the many options that will soon become available to you.  

The administration, educational leaders, and athletic director will each give a brief overview of the ninth grade experience, and also talk about course expectations and the differences between levels at the high school.  You will then break into smaller groups and have an opportunity to tour our facility and hear from faculty and students about our many exciting academic, elective, and extra-curricular programs.  . 

Please be aware that this event involves guided tours of the building. Our building is large, and I recommend that comfortable shoes be considered. The event concludes by 9:00 pm.
