On Thursday, October 19, 2017, students also showed their support of breast cancer awareness by sponsoring a wear pink day.  Helping Hands Community Service sold pink ribbons prior to Thursday and raised over $200 to donate to breast cancer research.  Way to Rise Above, MMS!

Students who had their pictures taken earlier this year, received their pictures this past Friday.  If your child was not present on the original picture day or if you are not satisfied with your pictures, LifeTouch will be back at Medway Middle School on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

iReady Score Reports

On Friday, October 20, 2017, we emailed your child’s iReady score reports to the email address that we have on file.  If you did not receive your child’s score report, please email our instructional coach, Mary Evans at  A link to an interpretive guide was included in the letter to assist families.  On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, we will hold a Parent Coffee Hour focused on the information that the iReady assessment tool provides us and how we will use this information to support student learning. This meeting will be held in the library.

Outside Time

We have been fortunate to have beautiful weather so far this year and we are pleased to continue to provide students the opportunity to go outside daily.  We do have activities for students to do outside, including nerf footballs and soccer balls, and are in the process of getting additional equipment for students to use while outside. We do attempt to provide students latitude during this unstructured time.  With that said, student safety is always a priority.  We regularly communicate our expectations to students, including limiting physical contact.  Physical contact in the context of a game or horseplay can quickly escalate or result in injury.  We ask for your assistance in reinforcing this important safety precaution with your child.  Thank you.

Breakfast is Served

Medway Middle School is a proud recipient of the 2017 NFL Play 60 Grant.  Grant funds, provided by the National Football League and the New England Dairy Association, will be used to start a breakfast and before school exercise program at MMS.  Breakfast is now available to all MMS students who arrive to school by 7:30 am.

WEB Fall Fun Day

On Thursday, October 26th all fifth grade students are welcome to attend the W.E.B. Fall Fun Day from 2:00-3:00.  The W.E.B. leaders have created a variety of activities such as games, crafts, and spooky stories that will take place in the gymnasium.  Any questions please contact Mrs. Taccini at

Library After School

We are excited that so many of our students are accessing the middle school library on a regular basis after school.  The library is a place where students are able to do their work independently, access technology to complete their homework, or access the Makerspace, while connecting with peers.   While the library is supervised each day until 3:00 pm, it is not always a distraction free environment.  If your child is staying after in the library, please speak with them about what your expectations are for them during that time.

News from the Superintendent’s Task Force on Middle School Recess

The Superintendent’s Task Force on Middle School Recess is comprehensively examining opportunities for recess at the middle school level, including potential advantages and challenges.  To date, the task force has done an extensive review of recess related research and has examined if/how surrounding districts are currently implementing middle school recess.  The task force’s next step is to better understand the opinions of MMS parents and guardians on the matter.  Please share your thoughts by completing this brief survey: Middle School Recess Parent Survey.  Thank you for helping to guide this important work.
